Notes

The following shows an example of the things you may need to set in your sccp.conf file.

It is suggested that you create fresh phone device sections for each phone and line sections for each line in the sccp.conf file with only the required items instead of modifying the existing samples. Putting in more configuration than needed can cause things not to work or work in unexpected ways.

Don’t forget to modify for the information specific to your Pod:

  • Change the MAC addresses of the phones to match your phones

  • Change the descriptions, line names, caller ID names, etc.

Voicemail sccp.conf File Changes

When you get to the lab where you are enabling voicemail these additional changes to sccp.conf add the ability to enable the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) lamp on SCCP phones when there is a message in a mailbox. To do this you need to add the mailbox = xxxx option to each of the lines you wish to monitor in sccp.conf

For example:

You can also set the voicemail button on the phone (newer Cisco phones have a picture of an envelope on this button) to be a speed dial button which calls the extension to check messages. To do this you need to add the vmnum = xxxx option to each of the lines you wish to monitor in sccp.conf

For example:

vmnum = 2999

After making changes to the MWI you will need to reload the sccp configuration in Asterisk and reboot/reset the phones before the MWI light status will begin being updated.

Reloading After Configuration Changes

If you make changes to the sccp.conf file and need to get Asterisk to re-load the configuration you can run the sccp reload command from the Asterisk CLI to re-read the file.
