Lab & Homework Assignments

Lab Reports

For each chapter having lab activities you will need to submit one lab report which covers all of the lab activities listed below in the chapter. Submissions are made through the NetAcad site. You do not need to submit answers to the questions in the activities, those are for your own learning use only. Lab activities may include remote equipment access or campus equipment. Good lab reports in this class are typically 400-700 words long. Each lab report is worth up to 20 points.

If you have not done lab reports in one of Dr. Franske’s classes before, or you want to try and score better on lab reports, be sure to check out the instructions for writing lab reports page and example reports!
When Using Netlab Remote Lab System
  • The login password for CAASP Pod PCs in Netlab is: Cisco123

Please make sure there are no extra VLANs or VTP information on any of your switches after finishing each lab. Follow these instructions to ensure your VLAN and VTP information are cleared on all switches before finishing your lab.
  1. Lab 1.1.2 - Implement Inter-VLAN Routing

  2. Lab 2.1.2 - Observe STP Topology Changes and Implement RSTP

  3. Lab 3.1.2 - Implement Advanced STP Modifications and Mechanisms

  4. Lab 4.1.2 - Implement MST

  5. Lab 5.1.2 - Implement VTP

Before beginning this lab you will want to be sure there are no extra VLANs or VTP information on any of your switches. Follow these instructions to ensure your VLAN and VTP information are cleared on all switches before starting.
In Part 2, step 2c of this lab you are asked to create vlan 2048 on switch D1. You will encounter an error when trying to do this. There is a note about the error in the lab but it is wrong. VTP version 1 or 2 cannot do extended range vlans (above 1005) regardless of the type of IOS on the switch. Only VTPv3 supoports these. Instead of vlan 2048 you can create vlan 948 and see the same thing (that it is not created on D2 or A1 automatically through VTP because they are now in a different domain).
Before ending this lab please make sure there are no extra VLANs or VTP information on any of your switches. Follow these instructions to ensure your VLAN and VTP information are cleared on all switches before finishing.
  6. Lab 5.1.3 - Implement EtherChannel

  7. Lab 5.1.4 - Tuning EtherChannel

In Part 2, step 2a-d of this lab you are asked to configure an LACP EtherChannel bundle between D1 and D2. The directions are a bit unclear but you should configure the ports on both D1 and D2. Be sure the port channel comes up and the ports are included/working in the bundle as expected, if you only configure D2 the port channel won’t come up or work.
  8. Lab 6.1.2 - Investigate Static Routes

  9. Lab 6.1.3 - Implement VRF-Lite

  10. Lab 8.1.2 - Implement Single-Area OSPFv2

  11. Lab 9.1.2 - Implement Mult-Area OSPFv2

  12. Lab 9.1.3 - OSPFv2 Route Summarization and Filtering

  13. Lab 10.1.2 - Implement Multiarea OSPFv3

  14. Lab 11.1.2 - Implement eBGP for IPv4

  15. Lab 11.1.3 - Implement MP-BGP

  16. Lab 12.1.2 - Implement BGP Path Manipulation

  18. Lab 15.1.2 - Implement NTP

  19. Lab 15.1.3 - Implement HSRP

  20. Lab 15.1.4 - Implement VRRP

If you have a problem activating VRRP on a switch it’s possible the IP Services license is not active. You can go ahead and activate if needed.
  21. Lab 15.1.5 - Implement GLBP

  22. Lab 15.1.6 - Implement NAT

  23. Lab 16.1.2 - Implement a GRE Tunnel

  24. Lab 16.1.3 - Implement IPsec Site-to-Site

If you have a problem configuring IPSec on a router it’s possible the Security license is not active. You can go ahead and activate if needed.
  25. Lab 16.1.4 - Implement GRE over IPsec Site-to-Site VPNs

  26. Lab 16.1.5 - Implement IPsec VTI Site-to-Site VPNs

  27. Lab 24.1.2 - Use Connectivity Tests and Debug for Network Assurance

  29. Lab 24.1.4 - Implement Flexible Netflow

  30. Lab 24.1.5 - Implement SPAN Technologies

  31. Lab 24.1.6 - Implement IP SLA

  32. Lab 25.1.2 - Install the CCNP Virtual Machine

You can find the CCNP Virtual Machine OVA file in the CCNP folder on the desktop of each PC in the Pod. Be sure to randomize the MAC address when you import the OVA file.

Homework

  • Participate in an online forum discussion (typically 3 quality posts or more) of each chapter on the Cisco Netacad site. See the forum posting page for details. (up to 10 points each chapter based on quality)

Discussion forum posts are usually worth a larger portion of your final grade than most students expect! If you have not done discussion posts in one of Dr. Franske’s classes before, or you want to try and score better on discussion forum postings, be sure to check out the instructions for participating in forum discussions and example posts!

Participation Activities

Any participation activities completed in the course will go here. This falls into the participation category of your course grade.

  • Complete the online course feedback form (5 points for completing)

  • Complete the online certification practice exam (10 points for attempting)

  • Meet with the instructor once per week to discuss course progress and ask questions (up to 10 points each based on progress)

Unit Assessments

You are responsible for completing all of the online unit assessments listed below. Multiple chapters are included in single exams. These exams fall into the online assessments category of your course grade. If you are not able to complete an exam by the due date listed on the course schedule it is your reponsibility to contact the instructor prior to the due date for the exam. Contacting the instructor after the due date for the exam will usually mean the late work policy will apply (see the syllabus). For example, if the exam reports as not activated, or the website is down, you have lost Internet access, etc. contact the instructor as soon as possible for assistance.
